Issues by reading a resource with File.separator on a dependency

I'm trying to create an opengl program by reading a specific shader, which is nothing else than simple text.

This file is located directly within the src folders.

If I read my shader from my main application, no problems slash, backslash, File.separator or File.separatorChar:

  • "ec/core/render/shaders/gl3/texture.vert"

  • "ec/core/render/shaders/gl3\texture.vert" double for escape

  • "ec/core/render/shaders/gl3" + File.separator + "texture.vert"

  • "ec/core/render/shaders/gl3" + File.separatorChar + "texture.vert"

but if I'm trying to load the shader from a dependency util:

        val fullShader = when {
root.endsWith('/') || root.endsWith('\') -> "$root$shader"
else -> root + '/' + shader // here
}

then only the slash works. All the others options fire a NPE once createShaderFromPath is called and codeflow reaches this:

        val lines = ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream(path).use {
println(path)
InputStreamReader(it).readLines() // NPE
}

Why?
