"Polynomial root" redirects here. For finding polynomial roots, see Root finding of polynomials. For advanced properties, see Properties of polynomial roots. "Zero set" redirects here. For the musical album, see Zero Set. A graph of the function cos⁡ (x){displaystyle cos(x)} for x{displaystyle x} in [− 2π ,2π ]{displaystyle left[-2pi ,2pi right]} , with zeros at − 3π 2,− π 2,π 2{displaystyle -{tfrac {3pi }{2}},;-{tfrac {pi }{2}},;{tfrac {pi }{2}}} , and 3π 2,{displaystyle {tfrac {3pi }{2}},} marked in red . In mathematics, a zero , also sometimes called a root , of a real-, complex- or generally vector-valued function f{displaystyle f} is a member x{displaystyle x} of the domain of f{displaystyle f} such that f(x){displaystyle f(x)} vanishes at x{displaystyle x} ; that is, x{displaystyle x} is a solution of the equation f(x)=0{displaystyle f(x)=0} . In other words, a "zero" of a function is an input value that produces an output...
