Hollywood.com is a U.S. news website covering English-language popular culture, including films, television, and celebrities.
The website publishes reviews and other news articles, and hosts discussion forums for its readers. It is financed by advertisements and by film ticket sales through the site.[1] It claimed 11.2 million monthly visitors as of November 2011[update].[2]
Owned by Hollywood.com, LLC, the site was founded in around 1995.[1] In 2000, 35 of the 50 employees at the site's Santa Monica office were laid off in an effort to cut costs by focusing operations on the company's headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida.[3] Laurie S. Silvers and Mitchell Rubenstein, the majority shareholders of parent company Project Hollywood, purchased Baseline StudioSystems, an online database and research service on the film and television industries, from The New York Times Company in 2011.[4] In 2014, they sold Baseline to Gracenote, a subsidiary of Tribune Media.[5]
