fatal error: Python.h: No such file or directory WITHOUT sudo access
I've seen this question asked many times, and the answer, in general, is to simply do
sudo yum install python3-dev
which retrieves the necessary headers. However, I am unable to find any advice on how to solve this issue on a system where I have no root access. I cannot install python3-dev
, and I can't even download the package since yum
does not by default support --downloadonly
.
I've created a local virtualenv
python instance which I'm working out of now. Can I locally install the Python development package there somehow?

The easiest thing to do is do your development on a machine where you do have root access. The next easiest thing is to ask whoever does have root access to install the headers for you. Beyond that, you are really beyond the scope of whatvirtualenv
is intended for: running Python code, not compiling C code intended to be called from Python.
