How to symbolic differentiation of dot product?
The following code gives 0, instead of 2*x1. I tried a lot, searched a lot, but not found the correct code. Maybe I missed something.
xx = Matrix(3,1,symbols('x1:4'))
diff(xx.dot(xx), x1)
Update
Sorry, the original code is
import sympy as sym
from sympy import diff, symbols, Matrix
x1, x2, x3 = sym.symbols("x1, x2, x3", real=True)
xx = Matrix(3,1,symbols('x1:4'))
diff(xx.dot(xx), x1)
The solution for my problem is to drop out the "real=True".
python-3.x matrix sympy symbolic-math

xx is a column vector with entries x1, x2, x3. And xx.dot(xx) is equal to x1^2 + x2^2 + x3^2. from sympy import Matrix .
