Observing container elements using pubsub

0

This seems like it should be brain-dead simple but I'm not finding anything.

With pubsub I can do something like

class foo():
def __init__(self):
self.blorb = 5

def __setattr__(self, name, value):
pub.sendMessage("foo." + name)

and then anyone can do

pub.subscribe(myFunction, "foo.blorb")

to be notified whenever blorb is modified. And this single __setattr__ definition lets me subscribe to any possible member of the class just by setting a listener to the appropriate topic string.

But if blorb is a list and I want to be notified when any element is modified, or even to subscribe to an individual element of the list, is there an equivalently simple way to do that? Or do I need to do something like wrap the list with methods to access/modify elements?
