How to dynamically 'grab' the input value to place inside an api's url?
.everyoneloves__top-leaderboard:empty,.everyoneloves__mid-leaderboard:empty,.everyoneloves__bot-mid-leaderboard:empty{ height:90px;width:728px;box-sizing:border-box;
}
You will find that I am trying to configure an api's url inside the function handleGetWeather
to include a {city}
that someone types in the input (city is the value of the input field in the jsx towards bottom of code shown). I then simply want to console.log
my data after the api call is made.
I have tested this function by hardcoding the url with a city name and can successfully get the data from the api and console.log
it. So its just a matter of dynamically grabbing that city from the input to be able to create the url for any city that is typed in the input field. Current attempts have included trying to substitute {city}
in the url with {value}
as well as this.city
and this.value
but these were not recognized values.
So my question is, how do I dynamically grab that input value so I can include it inside my url?
Thank you for your help.
handleCityInput(event) {
const { dispatch } = this.props;
const { value } = event.target;
dispatch(updateCity(value));
}
handleGetWeather(value) {
const { dispatch } = this.props;
axios
.get('http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather?q='+{city}+'&APPID=API')
.then(response => console.log(response.data))
dispatch(updateWeather(value));
}
render() {
const { city } = this.props;
return (

It looks like you're using redux. What does yourupdateCity
action to do your store? Also, you then need to pass the value of the city from your store back down into your component. So, the value of city should be coming fromthis.props.city
assuming you want to store the value in redux. Do any other components need the city value? if not, just store the value in local state usingthis.setState({ city: value })
and then you can access that fromthis.state.city
