Television Corporation of Singapore was a Singaporean television broadcasting entity. It was launched on 1 October 1994 and dissolved on 11 February 2001. It was composed of three autonomous divisions. TCS subsequently underwent a group restructuring of subsidiaries by Singapore International Media (SIM Group of Companies) on 12 February 2001 to becoming MediaCorp TV.



History


The Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) was privatised on 1 October 1994 and its operations were split into 3 autonomous divisions under the Singapore International Media brand, which were the Television Corporation of Singapore, the Radio Corporation of Singapore and Singapore Television Twelve. On 1 September 1995 at midnight, channel 8 became the first channel to broadcast 24 hours a day, while channel 5 achieved it on 30 September.


Malay and Tamil shows were moved to channel 12.


SIM was restructured as the Media Corporation of Singapore on 1 January 1999 and TCS subsequently became MediaCorp TV on 12 February 2001.
