Get detailed error from XMLHttpRequest in React Native app

0

I have a React Native app for Android and iOS that access a local web server with fetch and/or axios, which both use XMLHttpRequest under the hood.

My problem is that when an error occurs there's no error description available. So the end user will not know if the request failed because of host not found, port not open, no response, invalid ssl, or any other reason. (HTTP error statuses is not a problem though)

If I understand it correctly this seems to be a security measure. (https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=118096). In my use case though it's a great annoyance for the end user.

It also seems like there are non-standard ways to get detailed errors in Mozilla and Chromium (Shouldn't the error event of xmlhttprequest have an error message?).

Is there any way to get detailed error response in the React Native specific implementation?
