XML shredding of multiple nested elements with same name with XPath
I'm shredding a large XML-document into a table, and facing some troubles with nested node-structures, where I am extracting the ID's from the document
Here's an example of the XML-structure (stylised):
<ROOT>
<ENTITY>
<UNIT>
<ID>TEXT 1.0</ID>
</UNIT>
<ENTITY>
<UNIT>
<ID>TEXT 2.0</ID>
</UNIT>
<ENTITY>
<UNIT>
<ID>TEXT 3.0</ID>
</UNIT>
</ENTITY>
<ENTITY>
<UNIT>
<ID>TEXT 3.1</ID>
</UNIT>
<ENTITY>
<UNIT>
<ID>TEXT 4.0</ID>
</UNIT>
</ENTITY>
</ENTITY>
</ENTITY>
<ENTITY>
<UNIT>
<ID>TEXT 2.1</ID>
</UNIT>
<ENTITY>
<UNIT>
<ID>TEXT 3.2</ID>
</UNIT>
</ENTITY>
</ENTITY>
</ENTITY>
</ROOT>
As you can see, there are multiple nested nodes with the same names (eg. ENTITY and UNIT), but I only want the two first levels..
I've tried //UNIT/ID/text(), but I get ALL the descendants...
My idea was that if I could return the first two levels, I could make a mapping table that would link the top-level with it's direct child levels....
My wanted output would be like:
ID (string) SubID Array(string)
TEXT 1.0 {TEXT 2.0,TEXT 2.1}
TEXT 2.0 {TEXT 3.0,TEXT 3.1}
TEXT 2.1 {TEXT 3.2}
TEXT 3.0 {null}
TEXT 3.1 {TEXT 4.0}
TEXT 4.0 {null}
If you the selected the 2. level ID you would get that levels direct child level id's etc. etc. as the nesting in theory could go on and on.
