Making smaller vendor JS packages with Webpack 4 by exclusion
Trying to shrink down my JS files. Already using terser which helps considerably, but app.js is about 600kb, the manifest.js is 4kb, and the vendor.js is 2.5MB. I'm trying to split the vendor into smaller packages.
My approach is to split the vendor.js into smaller parts is to put React, Redux, and React Router into one reactVendor.js. Other libraries I use into utilityVendor.js. Then the remaining dependencies into just a vendor.js. (app.js and manifest.js will stay as they are).
This is my config below and it isn't working. It isn't creating the vendor.js and is putting everything else into the app.js which I definitely don't want.
I'm basically trying to create reactVendor.js and utilityVendor.js, then whatever isn't in those, put into vendor.js:
optimization: {
minimizer: [new TerserPlugin()],
runtimeChunk: {
name: 'manifest'
},
splitChunks: {
cacheGroups: {
reactVendor: {
test: /[\/]node_modules[\/](react|react-dom|react-router-dom|react-router-hash-link|react-redux|react-router-redux|redux|redux-form|redux-thunk)[\/]/,
name: 'reactVendor',
chunks: 'all',
enforce: true
},
utilityVendor: {
test: /[\/]node_modules[\/](axios|bootstrap|file-saver|lodash|moment|react-dropzone|reactstrap)[\/]/,
name: 'utilityVendor',
chunks: 'all',
enforce: true
},
vendor: {
test: /[\/]node_modules[\/]!(react|react-dom|react-router-dom|react-router-hash-link|react-redux|react-router-redux|redux|redux-form|redux-thunk|axios|bootstrap|file-saver|lodash|moment|react-dropzone|reactstrap)[\/]/,
name: 'vendor',
chunks: 'all',
enforce: true
},
}
}
},
Furthermore, I am also trying to add @react-pdf/renderer into the utilityVendor.js and the '/' is causing issues with regex. Not sure how to handle that either.
