Shards configuration with custom mappings using searchkick at heroku bonsai addon

0

I use custom mapping, with nested object:

class Candidate < ApplicationRecord
searchkick callbacks: :async, merge_mappings: true, mappings: {
candidate: {
properties: {
contacts: { type: :nested }
}
}
}, settings: { index:
{ number_of_shards: ENV['NUMBER_OF_SHARDS'].presence || (Rails.env.test? ? '1' : '4') } }

After deploying it to heroku with bonsai addon,
I remove all existing indices, run Candidate.reindex and I get /_cat/indices

green open candidates_production_20181115120304443 gxVGH8cfT0OrZnBuNFAZoQ 1 1 29562 0 107mb 53.3mb
which show that I have an index with 1 shard and 1 replica, ignoring settings value.

Locally all works fine (but I'm using elasticsearch 6.4.2)

  • Bonsai is handling those kind of settings - we cannot set it up as we wan't Bonsai take care of well done shards settings, so it's comfortable
