Django with Channels 2.1.1 Error During WebSocket handshake 500

0

I am working on a project using Django and Channels 2.1.1. Everything is working splendidly on my home PC but when I deploy to AWS I get the error: 'WebSocket connection to 'ws://IP/ws/lobby/' failed: Error during WebSocket handshake: Unexpected response code: 500 ' which originates from the line in my HTML where I establish the chat socket :

var chatSocket = new WebSocket(
'ws://' + window.location.host + '/ws/' + roomName + '/'
);

I am using nginx, daphne, and gunicorn to run my Django application on the host machine. Nginx is set to route websocket requests to port 9000 which Daphne handles, gunicorn handles wsgi on port 8000.
When I went to the Channels 2 tutorial it has a section for testing communication between the channels layer and Redis using the
Django Shell which I tested and works.
My full code can be seen at https://github.com/Rob-Fox/Chat2

Thank you

Turns out the 500 error was caused by me forgetting to install and configure Redis. All is working now.

Nginx config:

server {
listen 80;
server_name IP;
location = /favicon.ico { access_log off; log_not_found off; }
location /static/ {
root /home/ubuntu/Chat2;
}
location / {
include proxy_params;
proxy_pass http://unix:/home/ubuntu/Chat2/channelS.sock;
}
location /ws/ {
proxy_pass http://0.0.0.0:9000;
proxy_http_version 1.1;

proxy_read_timeout 86400;
proxy_redirect off;

proxy_set_header Upgrade $http_upgrade;
proxy_set_header Connection "upgrade";
proxy_set_header Host $host;
proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr;
proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for;
proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Host $server_name;
}
